Getting a Quote? Watch Out for These Common Excuses
What some painters might say — and why it matters more than you think.
—
At RepaintPro, we’ve been painting homes for four generations — and specialising in aluminium window painting since 2015. That means we’ve seen a lot. And unfortunately, we’ve also heard a lot from clients who’ve been misled or disappointed by other painters who offered quick quotes, low prices, or questionable advice just to win a job.
We’re not here to call anyone out. But if you’re getting quotes and hearing certain things — you should know the facts. In this blog post, we’re unpacking some of the most common excuses, myths, or shortcuts we’ve heard other painters use during quotes… and explaining how we do things differently at RepaintPro.
Because at the end of the day:
We are not here to sell you anything.
But we are here to solve the problem of what to do with those ugly windows that don’t match anything anymore!
—
???? “Black Paint Lasts Longer Than White Paint”
Let’s start with one of the most common myths we hear:
> “Black will last longer than white — white fades faster.”
It sounds reasonable. After all, dark colours seem tougher, right?
Wrong.
This myth is often used by painters who don’t want to do the hard work of proper masking. Spraying white or silver means they have to tape more carefully, use more coats for coverage, and clean more precisely. So they push customers toward black — not because it’s better, but because it’s easier for them.
???? Our Approach:
At RepaintPro, we spray every colour. Whether it’s Monument, Pearl White, Surfmist, or even metallics. We mask everything with precision, use the right number of coats for every finish, and apply proper primers underneath to ensure durability — not just colour depth. We don’t steer you toward black because it’s easier for us. You choose the colour — we make it last.

???? “We Don’t Remove Security Screens – Too Risky”
Another common one:
> “We leave the security screens on — it’s too risky to take them off.”
This usually means the painter doesn’t want the hassle or responsibility of removing, storing, and reinstalling screens. But leaving them on means they either:
Spray around them, which leaves a visible edge
Or try to tape under the edges, which almost never works cleanly
Either way, the end result is a compromised job.
???? Our Approach:
We remove flyscreens, security doors, and diamond grill panels all the time — it’s part of the job. In fact, we often respray them separately to match. And if requested, we can even re-mesh flyscreens for you after spraying. We’ve refined the removal and reinstall process over hundreds of homes. It’s safe, neat, and delivers the seamless look your renovation deserves.
—
???? “Glass Often Breaks When Screens Are Removed”
Another line we’ve heard more than once:
> “We don’t want to remove those screens because the glass might crack.”
This plays on fear. But the truth is, we’ve only had two panes crack in 7 years — and both were caused by incorrect screen sizing that put pressure on the glass, not by removal.
???? Our Approach:
We know how to remove security screens properly. We check the fitting, pressure points, and clips before any force is applied. If anything looks like it might be damaged already, we let you know and proceed with care. And if we’re unsure about a specific window? We’ll walk you through the options before touching anything. That’s what professionals do.

???? “One Coat Is Plenty for a Respray”
> “Yeah nah, we just spray one coat. It’s enough.”
This one drives us mad. One coat might look fine for a day or two. But it’s not enough to build up a proper film thickness — especially on old powder-coated aluminium.
???? Our Approach:
We spray 2 to 4 top coats, depending on the colour and surface. Lighter colours (especially whites) need more for full coverage. But more importantly, multiple coats give the finish strength and durability. One coat might save the painter time — but it shortchanges your investment. Our spraying system is built to last, not just look good for a week.
—
???? “It Doesn’t Need Priming – We’ll Just Spray Over It”
Priming is the foundation of any lasting finish. So when we hear:
> “We’ll just sand it and go straight to top coat.”
…we know what’s really going on.
Skipping primer saves time, sure. But it also means:
Poor adhesion
Flaking within months
A finish that looks fine, but doesn’t hold up in the real world
???? Our Approach:
We use a dedicated aluminium-safe primer on every job. It’s not just a light mist either — we apply it properly, let it flash off, and build a stable surface for the top coats to bond. This step is non-negotiable. You wouldn’t paint a house without sealing the render — why treat your aluminium windows any differently?
—
???? “We Don’t Need to Mask Everything — It’ll Be Fine”
Some painters will tell you:
> “Nah mate, we don’t need to tape the whole thing — we’re careful.”
No matter how good someone is with a spray gun, if they’re not masking properly, overspray will land somewhere it shouldn’t — on your bricks, your glass, your lawn furniture.
???? Our Approach:
We spend hours taping. Green tape, drop sheets, plastic wrap, protective paper — you name it, we use it. We mask all surfaces, and double check edges. Why? Because once that gloss black or Monument overspray lands on your bricks or pebblecrete, it doesn’t come off easily.
We’ve got a saying:
“If it’s not masked, it’s at risk.”
And we stand by it on every job.
—
???? “We Can Do It All in One Day”
> “We’ll knock this over in a few hours. Easy job.”
This is often said to make it sound like they’re efficient. But really — it’s rushed.
???? Our Approach:
Most RepaintPro jobs take about a week for an average home and up to two weeks for larger properties. That includes:
Prep
Cleaning
Sanding
Priming
Spraying
Curing
Screens removed and replaced properly
We’re efficient, but we never rush a job. You only want to repaint aluminium windows once. We make sure it’s done right.
—
???? “We Don’t Need to Clean the Frames First”
Here’s another one:
> “The old coating is fine, we’ll just paint over it.”
But aluminium, especially powder-coated or UV-exposed frames, hold onto wax, grease, dust, and pollution in ways that aren’t visible to the eye.
???? Our Approach:
We clean every frame using a wax and grease remover — not just water. This step removes any contaminants and allows the primer to bite into the surface. Skipping this step is a recipe for disaster. We’ve seen other jobs where paint starts bubbling or peeling within a few months — all because someone didn’t wipe the frames first.
—
???? “You’ll Save More If We Don’t Do the Screens”
Painters sometimes quote lower by leaving the screens untouched — then act surprised when they’re an eyesore next to your freshly painted windows.
???? Our Approach:
We give you an all-in quote that covers windows, doors, flyscreens, security screens, and garage doors if you choose to include them. Everything’s matched, clean, and cured properly — no half-finished look.
—
???? “It’s Just a Cosmetic Job – Don’t Overthink It”
> “You’re just changing the colour. Doesn’t matter how it’s done.”
It’s more than cosmetic — it’s about protecting the asset and adding value. And doing it wrong means you’ll be paying to fix it later.
???? Our Approach:
We treat every window like a key feature of your home. Because it is. That’s why we use:
Mechanical sanding
Solvent wipe-downs
Aluminium-safe primers
2–4 finish coats
And careful quality control on every step
We’re not just spraying colour. We’re transforming your property.

???? Real Work Across the Gold Coast
We’ve heard all the lines — and we’ve fixed jobs that were botched by painters who used them.
From Mudgeeraba to Pacific Pines, Hope Island to Robina, and Palm Beach to Maudsland, we’ve worked on hundreds of homes where clients called us after being disappointed by rushed, careless, or unfinished aluminium painting.
We don’t cut corners. We don’t offer rushed one-day wonders. We prep, prime, and spray like it’s our own home. Because if you’re trusting us with your biggest investment — we owe you our best work.

Let’s bring it back to the truth.
We’re not flashy salespeople. We don’t push the job. And we’re not here to undercut others and offer half the prep.
