Painting the Interior of French Windows on the Gold Coast
Why Interior Spraying Matters Just as Much as Exterior
When most people think of aluminium window spraying, they picture us masking the outside of a home, taping glass, and spraying frames in sharp modern colours. That’s where most of our videos are filmed — and it’s where the transformation is most obvious from the street.
But what many people don’t realise is that the interior of French and colonial-style aluminium windows is just as important. Every time you open your shutters, draw the curtains, or walk past your windows, the interior frame is in view. If the inside doesn’t match the exterior or has faded over time, the result feels unfinished.
That’s why interior spraying is a big part of what we do.

Why You Don’t See Us Video Interior Spraying Very Often
You might notice that most of our posted videos show exterior spraying. There are two main reasons for this:
1. Video Quality Indoors
Lighting conditions inside are much trickier.
Shadows, reflections, and glare from glass make it hard to capture smooth spraying on camera.
Even when we bring extra lighting, it rarely shows the clean detail of the work the way outdoor videos do.
2. Space and Overspray Protection
Interiors often require more delicate masking around blinds, curtains, furniture, and flooring.
Video equipment can get in the way of our team while we’re protecting a client’s home.
Our first focus is always on precision spraying, not filming.
So while we may not post many videos of interior French windows, rest assured that they receive just as much preparation, primer, and detail as every exterior frame.

The Process of Painting Interior French Windows
Step 1: Protecting the Interior Space
Drop sheets cover floors, carpets, and skirtings.
Curtains and blinds removed or covered.
Furniture shifted or masked as needed.
Step 2: Cleaning and Sanding
Interiors, like exteriors, collect contaminants.
Oils from hands, dust, and cleaning products can all affect adhesion.
Frames are sanded back to remove gloss and to key the surface for primer.
Step 3: Masking Colonial Bars and Glass
Colonial/French windows often have multiple small panes.
Each section is masked carefully to ensure sharp lines.
Green painter’s tape provides precision and avoids residue on glass.
Step 4: Priming with the Right Product
Norglass All Surface Primer is commonly used for interiors, giving strong adhesion to aluminium.
Applied via HVLP spray gun at controlled pressure (~28 psi).
Primer ensures the topcoat bonds properly and resists chipping.
Step 5: Spraying the Topcoats
Two to three coats of acrylic lacquer (or similar finishing system).
Each coat sprayed thin and even to avoid runs.
Film builds to around 40–60 microns total for durability.
Step 6: Tape Removal and Detailing
Masking carefully peeled back to reveal razor-sharp edges.
Glass wiped and any dust removed.
Interior frames now look factory-finished in their new colour.

Why Interior French Windows Are So Tricky
Multiple Small Panes – Colonial grids mean dozens of small masking sections.
Indoor Surfaces – More risk of overspray on walls, curtains, and furnishings.
Close Viewing – Unlike exterior frames, interiors are seen from inches away. That means every line must be perfect.
Light Conditions – Interiors catch both natural light and artificial light, so the finish must look flawless at all angles.
—
Colour Choices for Interiors
Colour choice indoors often follows different rules than outdoors:
Black Frames – Create a modern, architectural look, especially with white walls or plantation shutters. Black makes the glass disappear and the view stand out.
White Frames – Work best when interiors feature white curtains, shutters, or trim. Creates a seamless Hamptons-style finish.
Silver or Light Grey – Sometimes used in modern builds where stainless steel and neutral palettes dominate.
👉 From our experience, 99% of interior spraying ends up black or white, with Monument, Surfmist, and Ironstone appearing occasionally.

FAQs – Interior Spraying of French Windows
Q: Will the smell linger indoors?
No — while there is a temporary smell during spraying, it dissipates quickly with ventilation.
Q: Do I need to leave the house?
Not always. Many clients simply step out for a few hours. For larger jobs, we recommend being out for the day.
Q: How do you stop overspray inside?
By using masking, drop sheets, and controlled spray pressure. Our system protects every surface.
Q: Can you spray only the inside or outside?
Yes, but for best results we recommend doing both to keep colours consistent.
Q: Do you spray shutters and trims too?
Yes — if required, plantation shutters and trims can be sprayed to match frames.

The Bottom Line
While you don’t often see videos of us spraying the interiors of French and colonial windows, that doesn’t mean we don’t do it. The lack of videos is simply due to lighting and filming challenges indoors. The actual work is carried out with the same meticulous process, professional primers, and razor-sharp taping that you see on our exterior jobs.
If your interior French windows are still cream, bronze, or faded, updating them with a sprayed finish is the step that brings the whole home together — inside and out.
