From Faded to Flawless — Why More Homeowners Are Respraying Instead of Replacing

“We are not here to sell you anything. But we are here to solve the problem of what to do with those ugly windows that don’t match anything anymore!”

Tugun is the kind of place that still feels like the real Gold Coast. It’s got that perfect mix of local charm, old-school beach houses, and newer renovations taking full advantage of the coastal views and relaxed lifestyle. But no matter how nice the location, one thing keeps coming up again and again in homes across Tugun:

✅ Outdated aluminium window frames that make the entire home look tired.

Whether it’s cream, silver, mission brown, faded green, or pastel pink (yes, we’ve seen it), the old powder-coated aluminium from decades ago has well and truly passed its prime — but it doesn’t mean it has to be replaced.

We’ve been transforming homes across Tugun and the southern Gold Coast with our specialised on-site aluminium window spraying process, bringing old windows into the modern age with a clean, factory-like finish in as little as one week.

And in this post, we’re showing you exactly how we do it, why more people are choosing repainting over replacing, and what a Tugun window transformation actually looks like from start to finish.

Why Aluminium Window Painting is Huge in Tugun

Let’s be real — most of the homes in Tugun were built in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. That was peak time for powder-coated aluminium window frames. It was a great product for the time — no rust, low maintenance — but the colour choices were limited and trends have changed.

Fast forward to today, and the same homes have had:

Fresh render or weatherboard cladding added Brand new garage doors or fences in Colorbond tones Renovated bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas Repainted roofs in Monument, Shale Grey or Surfmist

But the windows? Still cream or chalky silver. They just don’t match.

That’s why aluminium window spraying is now one of the fastest-growing renovation services on the coast. It’s the missing link between old and new, and it changes the entire look of your home — inside and out.

A Real Job in Tugun — Monument Gloss for the Win

We recently completed a full window respray at a home just behind Tugun Beach. The house had been partially modernised with a fresh white paint job and timber accents, but the old silver aluminium windows clashed badly.

Here’s what we tackled:

18 aluminium windows 4 sliding doors 2 fixed glass panels All flyscreens removed and resprayed 1 pool fence (aluminium slatted, matched to windows)

The client wanted everything to match their new Colorbond Monument roof. We used our signature HVLP spray process, which delivers ultra-smooth finishes without brush marks or patchiness.

The transformation was immediate. From the street, the house finally looked cohesive. Inside, the dark frame outlines added depth and modern contrast to each room.

Our Process (Start to Finish)

If you’re new to this process, here’s exactly how we work:

1. Quick Quote with Photos

You send us photos of your windows and let us know:

Your location (Tugun or surrounding) Whether it’s a single or two-storey home Whether flyscreens or security screens stay on Your preferred colour (we can match most colours)

You’ll get a quote that includes materials, GST, labour, and any extras like screens or 2-storey access.

2. Site Access and Setup

We work from the back of our van. Having access to your driveway or garage early helps us get started smoothly. We bring all our own gear, and our team wears protective gear while spraying.

3. Cleaning and Surface Prep

Old aluminium holds a surprising amount of grime — sunscreen, salt air, cooking film, bug spray — you name it. We start by cleaning with wax and grease remover, then mechanically abrade the surface using fine sanding pads to ensure proper adhesion.

4. Masking

This is the most time-consuming step — and the most important. We use green low-tack tape, masking film, and drop sheets to protect all surrounding surfaces. Every window is outlined to perfection so there are no overspray marks or blurry edges.

5. Priming with Norglass

We use Norglass All Surface Primer — ideal for aluminium and powder-coated substrates. This primer is known for:

High adhesion to LSE surfaces Quick drying Smooth spray consistency

We use white or black primer depending on the topcoat colour.

6. Topcoat Application

We apply 2 to 4 coats of high-quality acrylic enamel using HVLP spray guns. This gives a professional, factory-like finish that’s durable and UV-resistant. Colours include:

Monument Surfmist Pearl White Basalt Custom matches

7. Tape Removal

Once cured, we do a satisfying tape pull — revealing crisp, clean edges every time. It’s always a highlight.

8. Reinstallation of Screens

If flyscreens or security screens were removed or sprayed, we reinstall them carefully.

Why Not Just Replace the Windows?

Here’s why repainting almost always wins:

Unless your windows are damaged or leaking, there’s no reason to replace them. You can keep the frames you have and make them look brand new.

Myths We’ve Busted in Tugun

Let’s set the record straight:

“Black paint lasts longer than white.” False. Both perform equally well when applied properly. This myth is often used to avoid tricky masking jobs. “Glass often breaks when removing flyscreens.” We’ve removed thousands — and only had two break (due to poor screen fit, not our process). “One topcoat is enough.” Definitely not. You need multiple coats for correct film build and UV resilience. “Security screens can’t be painted.” They can. We do it every week. They just require careful prep and the right primer.

What Do Tugun Homeowners Ask Before We Arrive?

Here’s what locals want to know — and our answers:

Do we need to be out of the house?

No. You can stay home, but we recommend stepping outside while spraying happens — fumes can linger for an hour or two.

Do we remove blinds or curtains?

Yes — or we tape them out of the way. Just note, older plastic clips may be brittle from UV damage, and breakages can happen even with care.

Do I have to move furniture or pots?

If you can move smaller items near windows before we arrive, that helps. We’ll handle larger items as needed.

Can I water the garden before the job?

Please avoid watering the day before and the day of. Damp surfaces affect adhesion and tape performance.

Can my dog stay out in the yard?

Absolutely — just make sure gates are secure, especially if we need to move in and out frequently.

Which Types of Windows Can You Spray?

We spray:

Fixed aluminium windows Sliding aluminium windows Aluminium louvre frames French doors Bifold doors Glass pool fencing frames Garage doors Slatted aluminium fencing Security screen doors

If it’s aluminium and it’s outside (or even inside), we can paint it.
